A day out of Kigali

Ever had a moment where you feel suffocated and just feel like get away from Kigali just for a day and come back? Actually you don’t need much. With your personal car or by bus you can still have some fun. First things first, know where you wish to go. Northern, southern, western or eastern province well it wouldn’t matter as long as the trip was made. A perfect idea would be a 3 hours road trip. From Kigali city heading to the Northern Province, Rubavu but also known as Gisenyi exactly. It will not cost you a lot and you will have enough fun. Head to the bus early in the morning, you can carry anything you’d like for the road trip and other main equipment to carry with you to make the trip more fun and adventurous, your headphones, a power bank as well as you camera. Perfect time to hit the road is morning. Get yourself a morning ticket and hit the road. Rubavu is 3 to 4 hours away from Kigali city. People say it is fun when you are a group of people but you could also have fun by yourself. Leaving nyabugogo you pass by igiti kinyoni where there is a junction of 2 roads, one going to the western and another going to the Northern Province. Obviously the Northern Province is your destination so you take that one. As the bus is going, the first thing one will see is the amazing view of the Kigali town, camera in hand, a picture would definitely mark the starting of a fun journey. One and a half hours away is the first stop known as “Nyirangarama” where one gets to stop and either take pictures, relieve themselves or buy some snacks to have on the road. As you continue you can’t miss the beautiful hills, the green vegetation and the people throughout the trip. Reaching Musanze (Ruhengeri) which is 2 hours from Kigali, your mind would definitely be blown away with the beauty of a small town. If you are adventurous enough you can stop and have a small tour around the town but sightseeing from the bus is also not that bad. Musanze is Rwanda’s most mountainous district, containing the largest part of the Volcanoes National Park, and its head office at Kinig. Rubavu is most likely 1 hour from Musanze. Temperature changes in the area as sometimes it gets warmer or cooler depending on the time. The journey gets better and better from sight to sight. If you don’t pay intention you can’t tell but as you get closer to Rubavu the volcano image becomes clear and clear. And as you enter Rubavu the first thing you feel is the waves of the Lake Kivu. Your body immediately feels free and your mind just feels at peace. Once in Gisenyi, you breath nothing but fresh air and at times you just feel like the lake is calling you. One either chooses to look around or saves some time by going straight to the beach and relaxes. The beaches are always filled with people chilling or having a good time. It’s worth it when you need it, different people, different climate, different ambiance and a good way to make new friends out of the Kigali city. Life is all about being adventurous at times and make the best of the time that we have. Try it, you won’t regret.
