Nyamirambo Women Center
Nyamirambo Women’s Center a Rwandan NGO, was launched at the end of 2007 by 18 women living in Nyamirambo, Kigali. Together they created a project which aimed to address gender-based violence, gender inequality and discrimination, problems faced today by many Rwandan women.
Their mission today is to provide education and training to disadvantaged women so that they can gain better opportunities for employment.
One of the services that they offer is a tour around Nyamirambo. Through its community-based tourism NWC aims to generate an income for the Center and to promote Rwandan’s culture and history and the visitors can choose from three cultural tours that provide an insight to daily-life in Rwanda and in particular Kigali:
- Walking Tour in Nyamirambo: visitors are given an insight of life in one of Kigali’s oldest neighbourhoods.
- Experience the tradition of basket weaving: you will get to know about this Rwandan tradition and learn the basic skills of sisal weaving.
- Local cooking class with Aminatha: learn from NWC’s famous cook how to prepare traditional dishes of Rwanda. To learn more about them, You can visit their website www.nwc-umutima.org
